Brian grew up in the North West, but we we don't hold
that against him (much). He learnt String Bass and Bassoon at
secondary school, where he played in both the school orchestra and big
band. He also joined the Stockport Youth Orchestra with whom he played
for the Queen in her silver jubilee year (1977). |
 |
After leaving school Brian played keyboards with
"Kaspa" for four years. This was a successful cabaret band which
toured the North West in a transit van called “Bastard” ('nuff said).
During that time the band also played on a Eurovision song contest entry
for David Paul. |
 |
A move to Bristol then saw Brian lose his way musically
and for several years he just played at home for fun and the
occasional jam with friends. After moving to Newbury, a chance
discovery that a work colleague was also a saxophone student led Brian to
dust off his bass. This expanded into the swing and jazz band, Jaxx Plus
One, gigging at summer fetes and such like. |
 |
Later still Brian played with Newbury college big band
for two years and became involved with both the Hungerford & Newbury Jazz
Platforms. More recently he joined Smokestack, a young and popular
R&B band based in Hungerford. |
 |
Brian finally joined Premium Banana in March 2005 via
the pit orchestra for the
Community of Hungerford Theatre Company Town Show production of Annie Get
Your Gun. The rest, as they say, will be history........ |

For the
record Brian plays:
4 string
Mania, thru neck, bass guitar and an Andreas Feller string bass customised
locally by
luthier Phillip Brown.
Amplification is provided by a Hartke Kickback12. The 12 inch aluminium
cone faithfully reproduces every nuance of the string note as well as
being punchy enough for those driving bass lines (or so he tells me!).
For those bigger venues he also plays through a Behringer 450w Ultrabass
head and 2x10, 4x10 or 6x10 speaker stacks.
